Most of the toolbar’s buttons are inactive unless the simulation has been paused by a solution breakpoint. The only action button that is active without being in the midst of solving the M&E balances is the following.
Starts the simulation (same as the button on the main toolbar, see Main Toolbar |
This toolbar’s action buttons become active as soon as the simulation sequence runs into a breakpoint set by the user. To find out how you can set solution breakpoints in and around unit procedures see Breakpoints in a Unit Procedure.
Once the simulation has paused, one or more of the following buttons may become active (each button’s action relates to where the simulation should stop next in relation to the current stop location):
Directs the simulation engine to continue the computation sequence from the current stop location onwards. The simulation will stop again if it runs into another simulation breakpoint (preset by user) or if it reaches the end of the simulation. See Resume Simulation Command.
Will stop the simulation. Note that this button is active during a (lengthy) computational sequence and can be used to abort the simulation, if the user wishes to do so. As a shortcut, you can also hit the Esc key (during the period that M&E balances are executed, Esc keystrokes are interpreted as this "abort simulation" command.) See also Stop (Abort) Simulation Command.
Active when the simulation has stopped outside a unit procedure (either right before entering a unit procedure or right after exiting a unit procedure). Clicking on this button will advance the simulation to the exit stop location of the next unit procedure. Note that this button is inactive if the current simulation stop location is in the middle of a procedure. See also Step Over Next Unit Procedure Command.
Will enter the solution sequence of the next procedure, right after the current simulation stop location. Note that this button is inactive if the current simulation stop location is in the middle of a procedure. See also Step Into Next Unit Procedure Command.
Active only if the current stop location is inside a unit procedure (i.e. right before an operation). Will direct the simulation engine to stop right after the next operation in the current unit procedure’s sequence. Note that this button is inactive if the current simulation stop location is outside a unit procedure. See also Step Through Next Operation Command.
Active only if the current stop location is inside a unit procedure (i.e. right before an operation). Will direct the simulation engine to simulate all remaining operations in the current unit procedure and stop as soon as the simulation exits the current unit procedure. Note that this button is inactive if the current simulation stop location is outside a unit procedure. See also Step Out of Unit Procedure Command.
Will stop the simulation right before entering the next unit procedure in the simulation sequence. Note that, as long that there are more unit procedures in the simulation sequence, this button is active irrespective of the current stop location (i.e. whether the current stop location is insider or outside a unit procedure). See also Stop at Beginning of Next Unit Procedure.
Will stop the simulation right before entering the unit procedure that shows as selected. Note that, as long as the selected unit procedure has not been simulated already, this button is active irrespective of the current stop location (i.e. whether the current stop location is insider or outside a unit procedure). A procedure is not visited yet by the simulation engine if the following sign shows right under its icon: For more on the meaning of the icons showing under unit procedures during simulation, see Solution Sequencing (FM Chapter 8). See also Stop Before Selected Unit Procedure Command. |

Shows the current simulation stop location. |
Turns on or off, the display of stop signs at the top of a unit procedure’s icon indicating that a solution breakpoint has been set. See also Show / Hide Solution Breakpoint Icons Command.
Turns on or off the display of simulation state icons at the bottom of a unit procedure’s icon indicating if a unit procedure has already been simulated, not visited yet, is being solved as part of a loop iterative process, etc. For more on the meaning of the icons under a unit procedure, see Solution Sequencing (FM Chapter 8).
