Classification
Indicates the classification type corresponding to a component. Click on the list box to bring up a list of available classification types in order to select one. Available choices are: ‘none’, ‘Solute’, ‘Solvent’, and ‘Carrier’.

(none)

(none)

Solute

Solvent

Carrier

 Yield (%)
The recovery yield % in the liquid phase corresponding to a component. For a component classified as ‘Solute’ or ‘Carrier’, it is defined as the % of the flow of that component in the solid-in stream that exits through the liquid-out stream. For a component classified as ‘Solvent’, it is defined as the % of the flow of that component in the liquid-in stream that exits through the liquid-out stream.

0.0

0-100

Total Solute Recovery Yield in Liquid Phase (%)
The total recovery yield % in the liquid phase of all solid-in stream components classified as ‘Solute’.

95.0

0-100

Total Carrier Loss in Liquid Phase (%)
The total loss % in the liquid phase of all solid-in stream components classified as ‘Carrier’.

0.0

0-100

Total Solvent Loss in Solid Phase (%)
The total loss % in the solid phase of all liquid-in stream components classified as ‘Solvent’.

10.0

0-100

Amount of Retained Solution in Solid Phase (kg/kg of Carrier)
The amount of retained solution by the solid expressed in terms of carrier amount in the solid-out stream. The solution consists of all components classified as ‘Solvent’ and ‘Solute’. The carrier consists of all components classified as ‘Carrier’.

1.0

Positive

Main Solute Name
Indicates the ‘Solute’ that is selected as reference for design calculations. Click on the list box to bring up a list of available components classified as ‘Solute’ in order to select one.

(none)

Any Pure Component

Symbol Key: User-specified value (always input); Calculated value (always output); Sometimes input, sometimes output

Specification Choices / Comments

The following list describes the available specification choices in this tab; for more details on how these are implemented, see Solids Leaching: Modeling Calculations.

If the Classification option of a pure component is ‘(none)’...

If this component exists in the solid-in stream, then the entire amount of this component in the solid-in stream will exit through the solid-out stream. If this component also exists in the liquid-in stream, then the entire amount of this component in the liquid-in stream will exit through the liquid-out stream. This component will not be considered in design calculations.

If the Classification option of a pure component is ‘Solute’...

This component is treated as soluble solid that is completely dissolved in the specified ‘Solvent’ component(s).

If the Classification option of a pure component is ‘Solvent’...

This component is treated as liquid solvent in which the specified ‘Solute’ component(s) are completely dissolved.

If the Classification option of a pure component is ‘Carrier’...

This component is treated as insoluble solid in the specified ‘Solvent’ component(s).

If the Solute Recovery Yield in Liquid Phase option is ‘Same As Total Solute Recovery Yield in Liquid Phase’...

The Total Solute Recovery Yield in Liquid Phase (%) is set by user and the Yield (%) of each component classified as ‘Solute’ is set equal to that value.

If the Solute Recovery Yield in Liquid Phase option is ‘Set By User (Per Component)’...

The Yield (%) of each component classified as ‘Solute’ is set by user and the corresponding Total Solute Recovery Yield in Liquid Phase (%) is calculated by the program.

If the Carrier Loss in Liquid Phase option is ‘Same As Total Carrier Loss in Liquid Phase’...

The Total Carrier Loss in Liquid Phase (%) is set by user and the Yield (%) of each component classified as ‘Carrier’ is set equal to that value.

If the Carrier Loss in Liquid Phase option is ‘Set By User (Per Component)’...

The Yield (%) of each component classified as ‘Carrier’ is set by user and the corresponding Total Carrier Loss in Liquid Phase (%) is calculated by the program.

If the Solvent Recovery Yield in Liquid Phase option is ‘Calculated Based On Total Solvent Loss in Solid Phase’...

The Total Solvent Loss in Solid Phase (%) is set by user and the Yield (%) of each component classified as ‘Solvent’ is calculated based on that value.

If the Solvent Recovery Yield in Liquid Phase option is ‘Calculated Based On Amount of Retained Solution in Solid Phase’...

The Amount of Retained Solution in Solid Phase (kg/kg of Carrier) is set by user and the Yield (%) of each component classified as ‘Solvent’ is calculated based on that value.
