PBA Flow-Through: Throwaway Tab

This tab appears on the interface dialog of the the following operation:

Variable Definitions, Ranges and Default Values

The following table shows a brief description of the variables appearing in this tab. The table also displays their default values and their generally acceptable range:

Variable	Default Value	Range

○ Throwaway % The percentage of flow-through amount that exits through the throwaway stream for each component.	0.0	0 – 100
○ Throwaway Stream Name Indicates the output port that is connected to the throwaway outlet stream. Click on the list box to bring up a list of available output ports in order to select one.	Out #8	Any Output Port
● Relative Throwaway Volume (per Cycle) (BV) The volume of the throwaway amount per cycle expressed as number of bed volumes.	0.0	Positive
● Absolute Throwaway Volume (per Cycle) (L) The volume of the throwaway amount per cycle	0.0	Positive

Specification Choices / Comments

The following list describes the available specification choices in this tab; for more details on how these are implemented, see PBA Flow-Through: Modeling Calculations.

•Throwaway %....

If the ‘Consider Throwaway’ option is set in the ‘Oper. Conds Tab’ (see PBA Flow-Through: Oper. Conds Tab), then a percentage of the Flow-Through stream equal to the specified Throwaway % will be sent to the Throwaway stream for each component. This can be useful if you wish to throw away an initial amount of flow-through because it contains little or no amount of valuable product components in it.
