Variable Definitions, Ranges and Default Values

The following table shows a brief description of the variables appearing in this tab. The table also displays their default values and their generally acceptable range:

Variable

Default Value

Range

Final Temperature (C)
The temperature of the final product at the end of the operation.

45.0

Positive

Agent
Indicates the heat transfer agent used by the operation. Click on the list box to bring up a list of available heat transfer agents in order to select one.

Chilled Water

Agent Name

Inlet Temp. (oC)
The inlet temperature of the heat transfer agent.

5.0

Positive

Outlet Temp. (oC)
The outlet temperature of the heat transfer agent.

10.0

Positive

Rate (kg/h)
The mass flow rate of the heat transfer agent.

0.0

Positive

Heat Transfer Efficiency(%)
The heat transfer agent efficiency. If the specified value is less than 100% then an increased heat transfer agent amount will be calculated by the program to satisfy the required duty.

100.0

[0,100)

Heating Duty (kcal/h)
The heating duty of the heat transfer agent.

0.0

Positive

Cooling Duty (kcal/h)
The cooling duty of the heat transfer agent.

0.0

Positive

Setup Time (min)
The amount of time (per cycle) spent before each operation is carried in preparation for the actual execution of the operation. It may involve actions like cleaning, vacuuming, setting up of equipment, etc. which the user opted not to model explicitly.

0.0

Positive

Nano Milling Time (h)
The actual duration of the operation (per cycle). Note that this value can only be calculated in Rating Mode.

4.0

Positive

Residence Time (min)
The ratio of the equipment volume to the liquid/solid volumetric flowrate of material processed per cycle (which is equal to the liquid solid volume of material processed per cycle divided by the process time).

30.0

Positive

Flow Is Recirculated
Check this box to indicate that the flow is recirculated and to specify relevant flow recirculation parameters.

No

Yes/No

Recirculation Times
The number of times that the flow is recirculated.

1

Positive

Once-Through Equivalent Time (min)
The ratio of process time to the number of recirculation times.

60

Positive

Power Type
Indicates the power type that is used by the operation. Click on the list box to bring up a list of available power types in order to select one.

<Std Power>

Any Power Type

Total Power (kW)
The total power consumed for the operation (per cycle).

0.0

Positive

Power Per Unit (kW)
The power consumed for the operation per equipment unit.

0.0

Positive

Specific Power (Per Unit Chamber Volume) (kW/m3)
The power consumed for the operation per unit chamber volume.

1500.0

Positive

Dissipated to Heat (%)
The percentage of total power consumed for this operation that turns into heat, thereby raising the temperature of the material contained in the equipment.

90.0

[0,100]

Symbol Key: User-specified value (always input); Calculated value (always output); Sometimes input, sometimes output

Specification Choices / Comments

The following list describes the available specification choices in this tab; for more details on how these are implemented, see Nano-Milling: Modeling Calculations.

Process Time Options...

The process time options are displayed only if the host procedure is operated in batch/semi-continuous mode. If the equipment is in Design Mode, the Nano-Milling Time must be set by the user. If the equipment is in rating mode, the user has the option of setting either the Nano-Milling Time or the Residence Time. In the latter case, the model calculates the Nano-Milling Time by dividing the equipment volume by the liquid/solid volume of material processed per cycle.
