Replace Resource: Heat Transfer Agent / Power / Labor / Consumables Tab

ResourceReplacePP.jpg

There are four tabs (just like the one showing above), one for each type of resource that can be replaced in a process model:

      Heat Transfer Agents

      Power

      Labor

      Consumables

They are all part of the Replace Resources Dialog which appears when you select Tasks }Other Resources} Replace Resource... from the main menu of the application.

If you decide to replace the use of a specific Heat Transfer Agent with another everywhere in your process model, you would have to find out first where this agent is used (see Locations where Heat Transfer Agents are Used Dialog) and then visit the engagement dialog (probably part of an operation’s i/o simulation dialog) in each place where your agent is used, and then select the substituting agent. This process would be very tedious (and error prone). SuperPro Designer allows you to execute such replacement very quickly from this interface. Just select on the left the agent that you want to replace, then on the right list the replacing agent (must be compatible, so you cannot replace a heating agent with a cooling agent), then click on “Replace”). Notice the pane below (with the header “Resource Substitutions”) that shows a line with the replacement you’ve selected so far. You can enforce multiple substitutions in one session. For example, you can replace:

      Chilled Water with Freon, and

      Hot Water with Steam

For usage of different resources in the process please, see also:

Power Types Currently Consumed (or Produced) by the Process

Labor Types Currently Used by the Process

      Consumables

then, exit the dialog. Both replacements will happen at once. There are certain scenarios that are not allowed (to avoid confusion and circular substitutions). For example, you cannot ask to have A be replaced by B, then B be replaced by C. This would amount to A being replaced by C but also, any present B, be replaced by C. To make your intentions clear you are required to provide the latter. .

When selecting a resource that is currently used on the left pane, only the suitable (based on the nature, not operating/size characteristics, options are presented on the right and are available to be used as substitutions. It is up to the user to make sure that the newly substituted resource performs as appropriately as the one that it replaces. For example, when selecting to replace ‘Freon’ with ‘Chilled Water’ since both are cooling agent, the program will allow this substitution to happen. However, if one or more places where ‘Freon’ used to be engaged required cooling at such low temperatures that ‘Chilled Water’ won’t be appropriate, this is not going to prevent the program from disallowing this substitution. This error will be discovered when you rerun the M&E balances.
