Pure Component Properties Dialog: Physical (Constant) Tab

This tab is part of the Pure Component Properties Dialog.

It contains physical constant properties information such as the molecular weight, enthalpy of formation, normal boiling point, normal freezing point, critical temperature, critical pressure, etc.

Checking the “Unknown” check box on the Critical Properties group of properties will make all values zero, and signify that the component cannot be used in thermodynamic calculations in the process. For instance, currently, the heat of vaporization of a component at any temperature T, could be approximated by the Watson correlation that requires the critical temperature Tc and the Heat of Vaporization at the normal boiling point of the component. The latter, if not known, can be approximated using Chen’s relationship that requires the critical temperature and the critical pressure of the component. Clearly, if the critical properties of the component are unknown, the user must provide an alternative way to estimate the heat of vaporization..

It is highly advised to check the Unknown flag, if the user does not know or is unsure of the critical properties of a pure component. This will avoid any inappropriate calculations of thermodynamic properties.

Currently, the following component property values are not used in any of the unit operation models but are kept and maintained for a future use:

      Enthalpy of Formation

      Normal Freezing Point

   If you modify the volumetric coefficient of a registered component and attempt to exit the component registration dialog SuperPro Designer will put up the following question:

If your answer is ‘Yes’, then the new value of VCC for the selected component (in the example above ‘Glucose’) will be set to all streams currently existing in the process (as well as used as the default value for all future streams included in the process).
