Variable Definitions, Ranges and Default Values

The following table shows a brief description of the variables appearing in this tab. The table also displays their default values and their generally acceptable range:

Variable

Default Value

Range

Linear Velocity (cm/h)
The linear velocity of the regeneration buffer in the bed.

300.0

Positive

Absolute Flowrate (m3/h)
The volumetric flowrate of the regeneration buffer in the bed.

0.0

Positive

Relative Flowrate (BV/h)
The volumetric flowrate of the regeneration buffer in the bed expressed as number of bed volumes per time unit.

0.0

Positive

Relative Volume (per Cycle, per Unit) (BV)
The volume of the regeneration buffer per cycle and per equipment unit expressed as number of bed volumes.

30.0

Positive

Absolute Volume (per Cycle, per Unit) (L)
The volume of the regeneration buffer per cycle and per equipment unit.

0.0

Positive

Regeneration Time (min)
The actual duration of the operation (per cycle).

30.0

Positive

Inlet Stream (of Regeneration Buffer)
Indicates the input port that is connected to the regeneration buffer’s inlet stream. If an input stream is already present at the selected port, then the button next to the selection is active. Click on that button to bring up the attached stream’s simulation dialog in order to provide the composition of the material being charged.

In #1

Any Input Port

Outlet Stream (of Regeneration Buffer)
Indicates the output port that is connected to the regeneration buffer’s outlet stream. Click on the list box to bring up a list of available output ports in order to select one.

Out #8

Any Output Port

Remove Membrane Contents ?
Check this box to remove the contents of the membrane to the outlet stream.

No

Yes/No

Symbol Key: User-specified value (always input); Calculated value (always output); Sometimes input, sometimes output

Specification Choices / Comments

The following list describes the available specification choices in this tab; for more details on how these are implemented, see Column Regeneration: Modeling Calculations.

Regeneration Time Options...

You may choose whether process time is set or calculated. If the process time is set you have the option to specify either the buffer’s Volume (per cycle, per unit) or its Flowrate. If the process time is calculated then you must set both the Flowrate and the Volume.

Buffer Volume Options...

If the process time and buffer volume are set by user, or if the process time is calculated, you can specify the buffer volume. Either the absolute volume (per batch cycle and per equipment unit) or the relative volume (in bed volumes) can be set. Any variable that is not specified will be calculated by the program.

Buffer Flowrate Options...

If the process time and buffer flowrate are set by user, or if the process time is calculated, you can specify the buffer flowrate. You can choose among three different options for specifying the buffer flowrate: you can specify the buffer’s linear velocity in the bed, or its volumetric flowrate in the bed, or its relative flowrate (in bed volumes). Any variable that is not specified will be calculated by the program.

Composition of Inlet Stream...

To specify the composition of the regeneration buffer’s inlet stream, click on the Edit Composition button. That brings up the dialog of that stream and allows you to specify its composition. Please note that the flowrate of that stream will be adjusted by the program during simulation.
