Variable Definitions, Ranges and Default Values

The following table shows a brief description of the variables appearing in this tab. The table also displays their default values and their generally acceptable range:

Variable

Default Value

Range

% Retained
The percent mass of a particulate component in the sludge that is retained in the product stream.

0.0

0-100

Solids In Cake (wt %)
The percentage of dry solids in the cake.

15.0

0 – 100

Overall Solids Recovery (wt %)
The total removal percentage of particulate components from the sludge.

0.0

0 – 100

Specific Sludge Loading Rate (Dry Solids) (kg/h-m)
The flow rate of the sludge expressed as mass flow rate of dry solids per unit belt width. Note that this value can only be set in Design Mode.

300.0

Positive

Solids Loading (SS) (kg/h-m)

0.0

Positive

Washing: Inlet Stream
Indicates the input port that is connected to the washing stream. If an input stream is already present at the selected port, then the button next to the selection is active. Click on the button to bring up the attached stream’s simulation dialog in order to provide its composition.

<None>

Any Input Port

Washing: Flow Per Unit Belt Width (m3/m-h)
The volumetric flow rate of the washing stream per unit belt width.

5.0

Positive

Symbol Key: User-specified value (always input); Calculated value (always output); Sometimes input, sometimes output

Specification Choices / Comments

The following list describes the available specification choices in this tab; for more details on how these are implemented, see Belt Filtration: Modeling Calculations.

Specific Sludge Loading Rate...

The Specific Sludge Loading Rate is input in Design Mode and output in Rating Mode.

Wash Amount Options...

You may either instruct the program to use whatever amount is available in the wash inlet stream or set the volumetric flowrate of wash per unit belt width and let the program calculate the wash amount based on that.
